Springs Preserve is located in Las Vegas, NV and guards the secrets of the Las Vegas valley’s past. The park spans over 180 acres and features nature trails, botanical gardens, playgrounds, multiple museums and exhibits, and a seasonal butterfly habitat. The preserve also features community events throughout the year. It’s a wonderful place to visit for all ages, and there is so much to see and explore. We’ve visited multiple times over the years, but we still find something new every time we visit. Check out our post to see one of our past visits.
Our favorite activity is to ride the train. The train operates throughout the day and can take visitors back and forth to Boomtown 1905: a recreation of Las Vegas as it existed back in 1905. Boomtown 1905 features railroad cottages, a bank, theatre, casino, and train depot. You can get off the train and explore the town and the nearby WaterWorks exhibit to learn how Southern Nevada residents get their water.
Near the Springs Preserve train station is the playground. Merlin and I like to hang out on the giant Sidewinder snake replica while the kids run around and play. My toddler is a little small for the big slides, but he loves playing the giant xylophone. In the warmer months, the Springs Preserve also features a splashpad near the butterfly exhibit.
We like to explore the Origen Museum. The Origen Museum features traveling exhibits that change throughout the year. Recently, they had a Cats and Dogs exhibit that Merlin particularly enjoyed. This museum also features a theatre where you can learn about the Mojave Desert. There are also live animal exhibits featuring desert creatures. On this trip we saw a rattlesnake and searched for some cottontail rabbits but weren’t able to see any.
